28th of June – After unusually sunny and warm spring days, West Ranga finally opened early morning the 20th of June. Exited Anglers from Norway had arrived the day before.
Before the opening day we had not seen salmon in the river witch is unusual. But they where there and 19 salmon where landed that day, most of them 2sw.
All the rivers in Iceland are low because of lack of rain, but West Ranga has plenty of water or about 45 cubic meters, that is still lower than usual, but only about 4 cubic metrers less. And for those that know the river well they can tell.
The first week gave a fair amount of salmon with some very satisfied anglers and others a bit desperate to get they’r first of the season witch they all got by the way before leaving. The last few days have been slow, 2-8 fish landed a day and a few lost, yesterday we had two sealiced grilles caught, so the runs are starting.
The sun is still shining in Iceland so the anglers are getting a good suntan, if you’re coming remember to bring sunscreen with. The July high tide is coming in now and is at it’s high tomorrow, we are all very excited to see what it will bring.
Tight lines from the West.
